Paayme Paxaayt Parasol
Keep Cool!
We have a limited quantity of paper and bamboo parasols featuring artwork commissioned from Jess Gudiel, a Los Angeles based Indigenous Artist who works with Culture Bearer Tina Orduno Calderon in a collaboration they call: Paviinokre meaning Fluidity / We Flow in Tongva.
We knew Jess was the perfect artist to design the parasol for the first season of River Sessions when we saw and fell in love with the shadow theater piece she created for Tina Calderon's narration of "The Seven Sisters", 2021.
We have less than 50 of these remaining- and once they are gone, we will not be making more!
All proceeds go to supporting our local artist and Indigenous guides during our first season of River Sessions.

Bio: Jess Gudiel is a land-based artist in LA, with roots in the practice of horticulture, shadow art, and puppetry. She has spent over a decade teaching sustainable organic growing in local schools and art centers, while using shadow art to help youth creatively express their interaction with local ecosystems. Her work is a reflection of her personal journey as an Indigenous woman living in a modern world, exploring themes of identity, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability through paintings, sculptures, installations, shadow art, and puppetry.
In her recent collaboration with Tina Calderon Tongva and Chumash Culture Bearer Rosanna Esparza, "Paviinokre: We Flow," she honors the native Tongva. Her art invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world and with Indigenous cultures. Jess has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the US and Latin America, receiving recognition and awards for her contributions to Indigenous art and culture.
